Our dad preferred saying "paper folding" rather than "origami" because "origami" is a Japanese word--and he always said, paper folding originated in China.
The very first paper folding he taught me when I was a little girl, was the monkey. He said it was the first one he had learned to make as a boy. I was charmed, and he taught it so well, I then proceeded to make so many monkeys--of all sizes. I think the smallest one I made was from a piece of paper .5" x .5". My hands were much smaller then. :)
